Secret Tactics To Help You Get A MRT Seat!
What battle? The “MRT Battle” that millions of commuters go through every day of course! No kidding. Apparently some guys are really into this and have written “Battle Manuals” for it. So unless you have the luxury to travel during non-peak hours, take a look. It may not necessarily guarantee you a seat but it will certainly increase your odds.Know yourself, know your enemies
There are three types of passengers;
- the civilian, people who are standing and don’t intend to sit down,
- the occupants, people who are already seated,
- and lastly the combatants, people standing but wanting to get a seat.

Get your first step right
The moment you hop onto the train, always turn away from the divider between two carriages. Making any move towards these dividers is simply digging your own grave. Instead, move towards the centre of the carriage where there are far more seats. This area is known as the “Fertile Valley”

In this Fertile Valley, look out for occupants who may be dropping off. For instance, school children who will most likely be dropping at station in the vicinity of their schools. This may require you to have some geographical knowledge of the area. While it may be difficult at first, it is something you can easily pick up over time. Take note of popular stations like interchanges where occupants often drop off to catch another train.
Also, learn to spot occupants who are entrenched in their seats. Occupants who do not look like they are getting to work or school may be in for the long haul. Chances of you getting their seats will be pretty slim. Find another target.

Always be on the lookout for best position
If an occupant in front is looking to get off, ‘create’ room for them to step out while blocking the advancement of other combatants. Next, quickly switch places with the occupants to grab their seat. Do it with grace and it’ll look like you’re dancing.

For the veterans, the above may be child’s play to you.
Looking for a greater challenge to test your skills? Why not expand your reconnaissance beyond your field of vision and include seats behind you! This is by no means an easy feat. But if you are looking to grab the title of Grandmaster in this battleground, prove your worth.

This is war, no doubt about it. In a world where there is no free lunch, you better get yourself prepared. With the recent launch of the new Circle Line, the battleground is bigger than ever before. Test your skills (though we by no means encourage it!)
More trains.
More seats.
More people.
More battles.
Will you be the next MRT Grandmaster?
